What was needed
- Manchester became the centre of the sporting world in 2008 with several key events taking place in venues across the city. These included:
- UCI Track Cycling World Championships
- 9th FINA World Swimming Championships
- BUPA Great Manchester Run
- UEFA Cup Final
- HI-Tec World Squash Championships
- Paralympic World Cup
- The aim was to present Manchester as a world class sporting destination for businesses and the consumer.
- We also had to obtain maximum awareness of the events in the national media and drive visitors to the Manchester World Sport website
What we did
- We emphasised the events as being part of 'an exceptional year for Manchester'
- The national media was kept updated through regular bulletins on the most noteworthy events
- Interviews and features were arranged across a variety of different media, including national newspapers and trade, sport and business websites
What happened
- High-profile exposure for all events through the national press was achieved
- Coverage was attained in a number of online trade websites too and as a result of this exposure the Manchester World Sport website enjoyed a significant increase in unique user and page view statistics
- The campaign was honoured with the silver medal in the Sports Industry Awards 2008
